It's that time again, Aunt Dottie's back

Dear Aunt Dottie,

I noticed you decided to visit me today, I was so happy when I saw you. I knew I could defeat you (thanks to my friends at Tudiabetes.com).I am more prepared than ever! I am in control of YOU! I changed my basal dosage to 8.0 from 4-6 am; for some odd reason YOU make my fasting bg's higher than normal. I will not allow you to ruin my bg's for the next 7 days, just because God invited you to visit, doesn't mean I will let you bring the DEVIL out; I was already mean to my Husband because of you. I want you to stop beating my body up and sending me through an emotional roller coaster. I am in control of you. I suggest you fix your attitude or pack your bags and leave...

Love,
Cherise

P.S.
Darn....I forgot I can't check you out! you'll be back next month!

My talk with Wesley...

It's no secret...I've been having problems with the Dawn P. I am not ashamed to say but gosh if I could get my fasting BG's back in order I think I would be good to go. I called Wesley (NP, Endo office), I let him know I can go to bed with my BG being 106 and wake up with it being 120! he said it's not that bad but I would need to keep increasing my basal rate from 4-6 am to .75 and keep increasing until I get my fasting bg's lowered! I'll keep trying and trying!!!I will not let DAWN P. beat me...hahahaha

Fasting Bg's

It's been a busy week for me! My mother in-law is visiting from MO! I am glad she is here, she's such a big help! She takes such good care of me! I come home from work...house is cleaned! She even fixed my lunch the other night...lol She said I needed a break because I work to hard; I wish my 2 year old thought like that. Mother's never get a break.

I have started walking every night; I should never had stopped. I was having issues with my fasting BG's, I knew if I walked a mile before bed my fasting Bg's would be under 100; I was right! why did I ever stop??? The other night I forgot to lower my basal rate and I dropped in the middle of the night. I had to walk around the house searching for glucose tablets! My Husband said, "Baby, you need to keep those tablets next to the bed." I know I need to be more careful. I get a little confused setting my night time basal rate. I do good all day but my fasting BG's are terrible. I thing still has me guessing all the time! I am taking baby steps, I am going to get this night time BASAL rate down! I hope I am not the only person who is having this issue! Do you have a bed time routine you follow to keep your fasting BG's below 100?

Bla, Bla...blog

Last week was a relaxing week! I started the week of very positive! I didn't let my job get to me! I tried to keep a positive frame of mind; easier said than done. I think sometimes people tend to try me but I let it go one ear and out the other!
I had a lot of high fasting bg's, not sure why! I didn't let me it bother me. I figure if it was high Sunday morning I would adjust. Well guess what....this AM it was 114. Last night when I went to bed my bg's were 90!!! I figure the Dawn P is getting the best of me. I'll get it together, no worries

Last Tuesday was Pod change night. I changed my POD went to bed. I heard peep, peep, peep. I got out of the bed, went by my PDM and it read change pod; heck I just put in 150 units in this new pod! I called Insulet and I told them what happened. The Rep asked what I was doing when the alarm went off, I let her know I was laying down. I asked the Rep what could've caused the Pod to alarm. She said she didn't know but it happens sometimes. I let her know I just changed my Pod, she said she would send me another one. I am glad she will be sending a replacement Pod but what about the insulin that was wasted!?! I am thankful for the replacement Pod's but I have to figure out away to get a vial of extra insulin to cover me for Pod changes. I'll talk to my Endo about this when I go back next month.

Be Blessed

Dawn Phenomenon (DP), High Fasting BG's

Diabetes makes me feel like I am still in school, the only difference is Diabetes teaches me something new everyday...HAHAHA

At my last Endo visit I told Wesley that I was having extremely high fasting BG's. The only time I had high fasting BG's is when I first found out I was prego w/ Niya 2 yrs ago. I wasn't prego and I am not trying to get prego...not that it couldn't happen. God does what he wants to do, as much as we try to control things sometimes it's out of hands...LOL I jumped off the subject, that's another Blog Title. Anyway, back to the subject. Wesley said I was experiencing the Dawn Phenomenon. I've heard it mentioned a few times over at Tudiabetes.com; I have never researched it. I've never experienced DP until recently. Wesley and I decided to up my basal setting from .50 at 12-6 AM to .60, I haven't had a high fasting BG in the AM since then. I have been averaging between 85-95; ahhh!! back to normal.
I did some research and I found out what DP was and I thought I would share it with everyone....

Introducing DP to some and refreshing other's memories:
Very high blood glucose in the early morning due to the release of certain hormones in the middle of the night. The body makes certain hormones called counterregulatory hormones, which work against the action of insulin. These hormones, which include glucagon, epinephrine, growth hormone, and cortisol, raise blood glucose levels, when needed, by signaling the liver to release more glucose and by inhibiting glucose utilization throughout the body.

In the middle of the night, there is a surge in the amount of growth hormone the body releases, followed by a surge in cortisol, which effectively cranks up glucose production in the liver, presumably to prepare the body for daytime activity after a period of fasting. In people who don't have diabetes, these processes are offset by increased insulin secretion by the pancreas, so blood glucose levels remain relatively stable. However, in people with Type 1 diabetes, whose pancreases don't make insulin, and in people with Type 2 diabetes, whose livers may not respond to insulin well enough to stop glucose production, changes in glucose metabolism during sleep can have a profound effect on morning blood glucose levels. Typically, the blood glucose level rises between 4 AM and 8 AM.

I received the above info from www.diabetesselfmanagement.com, click Diabetes Definitions.

P.s.

If you are experiencing HIGH FASTING BG's please talk to your Healthcare Team. They will be able to adjust your medication or insulin as needed. LOL, I wouldn't want you stressing out like me for 2 weeks!!!
